WATERBURY CT – Geraldine Louise Finlay age 77 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Regal Care of Waterbury, surrounded by those who loved her after an extended illness.

Geraldine was born on February 8, 1940 in Waterbury the daughter of the late William Gilbert and Stell (Brazis) Finlay. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School, Southern CT State College and NYU where she received her Masters Degree in Physical Education. Geraldine was a teacher for the Wolcott Public Schools System for over 32 years and was a member of the NEA, CEA, and the Farmington Ladies Golf Association, where she also served as President for many years. She was an avid fisherman, once reeling in a 600 lb. tuna, loved golfing, bridge and bowling and was affiliated with the Girl Scouts of American for many years. She was a parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Church.

She is survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles as well as her special friends, MaryGertrude S. Jones, Diane Montgomery, Judy Mirrer, Edith Bruno, Turid Heffler, and her devoted caregiver, Lois Walters. She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn E. Finlay in 2011.

Geraldine’s family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the entire staff at Regal Care of Waterbury for the kind and compassionate care they shared with Geraldine during her illness.
Funeral services for Ms. Finlay will be held on Friday September 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m from Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT to SS. Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Geraldine’s family on Friday morning from 9:30 till 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, to honor Geraldine’s memory, donations can be made to the Congregation of Notre Dame, 2330 Sherbrooke West Montreal, Quebec, Canada H3H 1G8 cnd@cnd-m.org.
